DRINKNAMES

Our beers

The BIC Moose Club has it's own beer brand: BIC Moose Beer.
Our BIC Moose mascot, moose Philip, lived in the moose safari park in Markaryd. He is featured in our logo and portrayed on the beer label of all our types of beer.
On behalf of the BIC Moose Club, the brewers produce different kind of beer:
Pilsener, blond and Weizen, both on tap and in bottles. And special beers in bottles: Snapphane Dark Wheat, Hansa Alt, Moose Philip Dubbel, Moose Philip Tripel,

Our special beer Hansa Alt is called after the Hanseatic League. The bond between Sweden and the Netherlands is more than 500 years old.
Both countries are today frontrunners in innovation. The Bluefinger Innovation Centre carries the hallmarks and fruits of Dutch-Swedish co-opearation. And even the ancient beams from our building remind us of the Hanseatic route (wood from Germany and Southern Norway).

The Snapphane Dark Wheat beer is attributed to our sister-organisation, the Snapphane Innovation Centre in Osby, Skåne,
the most southern part of Sweden. The name Snapphane (see explanation to the right) is also used in another drink, de 'kopstoot'
(a shot and a brew) Snapphane Kämpe (old genever and the Snapphane Dark Wheat beer). This drink is attributed to the heroic freedom fighters (Kämpe = combatant), that in the year 1676 during a local raise in Loshult, captured the entire Swedish war treasury.

The second 'kopstoot' on our drinks menu we have called the Carolean Comfort (premium young genever and Moose Philip Tripel).  It refers to an other period in Swedish war history. The Swedish king Carl XI made war in Germany with his modern army of Carolean soldiers. His successor Carl XII continued the battle, but he was killed. His death led to the fall of Sweden as a military superpower.

One of our cocktails is called Viggen. It is the cocktail with young genever and Bitter Lemon, in Holland generally called
'straaljager' (jet fighter). Saab 37 Viggen is the name of the famous Swedish fighter, to be compared with the F16.
Viggens predecessor was Draken and its succeeder is Gripen, to be compared with the Joint Strike Fighter.

Our cocktail of genever and Ginger Ale is called Tors Hammar, called after the hammer of the Nordic God Tor (Thor).
He is the son of the supreme god Odin and Fjorgyn, the goddess of the earth.
He was difficult in his youth, and was raised by two lightning spirits, Vingir en Hlora.

Our cocktail Nils Holgersson (sweet spiced genever and Cassis, possibly also with Ginger Ale) is called after the main character in Selma Lagerlöf's child book from 1906: the Wonderful Adventures of Nils. The book was meant to help children to learn Swedish geography in a playful way. Nils flies over Sweden on the back of Akka, the leader of a group of wild geese.

Our alcohol-free cocktail, generally called Snow White, we have baptized Pippi Långstrump. Astrid Lindgrens story about the free-spirited Pippi, a nine year old girl, living in villa Villerkulla, the house she shares with her monkey, named Mr. Nilsson, and her horse called Lilla Gubben (Little Old Man). Pippi happily lives free from social conventions to the displeasure of the other inhabitants of the village.

The Hanseatic League is de facto a precursor of the current EC. A successful  co-operation between the Hanseatic Cities around the North Sea and the Baltic.
The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Sweden played a major role.
The Hanseatic League was of great importance for the development of trade and culture.

The Snapphane resistance against the Danish and Swedish armies
The most southern Swedish County Skåne (Scania) was originally Danish until 1658 (Roskilde-peace). The border district in the Northeast of Skåne was, during the the whole 1600 century, a scene of ruthless cruelties, during the fights between Swedes and Danes.
The closeness of Swedish and Danish armies spread fear amongst the inhabitants. Many of them were forced to seek protection in the deep forest. Some enlisted in the Danish or Swedish army. Others decided to battle for their own survival and freedom.
In this era the mythical Snapphane combatants took their place in Skånes history, with their epic and heroic interventions.

Swedens contemporary armed forces
Swedens armed forces are strongly developed, because the country wishes to stay neutral, not a member of NATO.
Sweden's air force is technologically very advanced with SAAB as a well-developed industry.

Gods in the Norse mythology
The most important Gods:
Odin the supreme god
Tor (Thor) his son, protector of humanity
Freya (Freja), love goddess
Njord, god of the sea
Tyr, god of war and bringer of justice
Baldr (Balder) god of beauty
Ymir (Aurglmir), father of all giants

Selma  Lagerlöf (1858-1940) was a Swedish author.
In 1909 she received, as the first woman, the Nobel prize. In 1914 she became member of the Swedish Academy, the commity, proposing Nobel prize candidates.

The famous Swedish author Astrid Lingren
(1907-2002)
has published numerous books about challenging children.
Lindgren is for us a great example of a creative rebellious spirit.
